Stonewalling by the Macon Telegraph.

The Angry Citizen

It has become obvious that neither the Macon Telegraph nor Knight Ridder will correct Mr. Richardson’s dishonest and irresponsible repeating of rumors and outright lies.

The Telegraph and Knight Ridder apparently have less integrity than the New York Times.

I will be consolidating all my posts into a single page to free the blog for other topics and to allow me to keep the issue on the front page of the Blog as a stand alone page. I would also like to hear of any other similar errors and lies. If you give me verifiable examples of this kind of reportage or commentary along with a means to verify your charge of error I will add it to the list of The Macon Telegraph’s dishonest reporting.

The basic issues are Mr Richardson’s allegations that former FEMA director Mike Brown was a “college chum” of Joe Allbaugh and only got the job for that reason, and the allegation that Mr. Brown had no experiance.

The first is easy to disprove:

It repeats a discredited report to support a charge of cronyism. This allegation is rampant on liberal blogs but has been repeatedly denied by those involved. The New York Times has published corrections related to several Op/Ed columns that made this assertion. If Mr. Richardson can show a source to substantiate this I am certain many would like to see his proof.

Op-Ed columns by Paul Krugman (Sept. 5 and 9), Maureen Dowd (Sept. 10) and Frank Rich (Sept. 18) said Michael Brown, the former FEMA director, was a college friend or college roommate of Joe Allbaugh, his predecessor. They went to different colleges and later became friends.
